CINECA is a Consortium Institution, made up of 40 Italian universities, The National Institute of Oceanography and Experimental Geophysics - OGS, the CNR (National Research Council), and the Ministry of University and Research.
Today it is the largest Italian computing centre, one of the most important worldwide. With more than three hundred and fifty employees, it operates in the technological transfer sector through high performance scientific computing, the management and development of networks and web based services, and the development of complex information systems for treating large amounts of data.
It develops advanced Information Technology applications and services, acting like a trait-d'union between the academic world, the sphere of pure research and the world of Private Industry and Public Administration.
Pierrel holds the exclusive worldwide rights for using Cineca technology in Clinical Trial promoted by private and public Life Science Sponsors.
In November 2001, the Consortium obtained the ISO 9001:2000 certification for "Design, development, creation, and distribution of services and systems in the field of Information and Communication Technology".
In September 2005 Cineca certificated, according to the BS7799-2:2002 standard, the activities of: "Analysis, design, development, operation and maintenance of Decision Support Systems and Information System Infrastructures for management, monitor and analysis of clinical trials and epidemiological registries for health services organizations", provided by Systems and Services for Health Department.
In July 2006 Cineca obtained the ISO 27001:2005 certification.
